The scariest season of the year is almost upon us. But, unfortunately, it’s not ghouls, zombies, or monsters that we need to be scared of this year. Instead, it’s a super transmissible virus, COVID-19. But as we all struggle to find a way to live with COVID-19, Halloween is still something we can celebrate. We just have to find some new ways to keep everyone safe and clean!
As a cleaning company, we take safety and disinfection seriously, so we thought we’d share some tips and tricks we’ve found that can help you celebrate Halloween safely.
- Build a candy chute! Last year, many people got creative and came up with some great ways to still trick or treat, even with social distancing. We love the idea of a candy chute. Here’s a great tutorial on how you can create your own this year!
- Skip the communal candy bowl. If you love to bring a bowl of treats into the office for Halloween, try treat bags instead. Everyone’s dirty hands reaching into the bowl and hunting around for their favorite treat is a recipe for spreading germs and bacteria. Individual treat bags are safer and easier to distribute without spreading germs.
- Keep your costumes COVID-friendly! Masks are more in style for Halloween this year than ever before. Instead of lamenting the fact that you have to wear a mask, incorporate it into your costume!
- Keep hand sanitizer on hand. If you plan on inviting friends or family members to your business or home, make sure you have hand sanitizer at the entrance for each visitor to use. It’s a simple gesture, but it helps cut back on the spread of germs.
- Disinfect your Halloween decorations. If your decorations have been sitting in a box in the garage all year, make sure to let them air out and disinfect them before putting them up. After the holidays are over, clean them before putting them away.
- Step up your high touch point cleaning! Ensure that all high touch point areas like light switches, door handles, elevator buttons, and walls are cleaned thoroughly, and add in a couple of extra cleaning rotations if you have some scary visitors!
Halloween is great fun, but it can be scary. The last thing you want to bring into the office or your home is something as frightening as a deadly virus. If you follow these tips, you’ll have a little more peace of mind as you celebrate the spookiest of holidays this year!
