Every dollar counts in a business’s budget, so you must carefully check each expense. But one area in your budget is sure to be burning through your cash fast – the restroom. Your business’ restroom is a massive waste of funds, especially if you haven’t made restroom upgrades in quite some time. If you want to lower your costs, here are a few upgrades that can save you some money!
- Switch to foam hand soap. Foam hand soap is easier for people to use, and they use less of it. The less soap your customers use, the less you have to buy. Unlike lotion or gel soaps, you don’t need as much to clean your hands when using foam soap. Another drawback of lotion or gel soaps is that they tend to solidify and get stuck in the bottom of the dispenser, so you’re never using all your supply. You may be able to buy a large bulk supply container of lotion or gel soap, but you’ll spend more time refilling your soap dispenser and cleaning up the soap remnants than you would if you choose foam soap cartridges.
- Switch to hand dryers. Hand dryers are better for the environment compared to paper towels. Commercial hand dryers use as little as 500 watts of electricity and offer 8 to 14 seconds of dry air time. Americans use nearly 13 billion pounds of paper towels each year. That’s a massive amount of waste. In addition, paper towel usage in your restroom often leads to messy restrooms when people don’t dispose of them properly or even clogged toilets when they attempt to flush them. Save the trees and your money by installing hand dryers instead!
- Install motion-sensing faucets. If you want to cut back on your water bill, install motion-sensing faucets. These faucets reduce the water your customers can use to a few short seconds instead of allowing the customer to leave the tap running. As a bonus, you don’t have to worry about your customers forgetting to turn the tap off either!
- Use higher ply toilet paper. Spending more money on higher-quality toilet paper may seem counter-intuitive, but it will save your business money. A 2019 survey found that 35% of Americans use more toilet paper in public restrooms than at home. Many people buy higher-ply toilet paper for their own homes to get the job done. The lower-ply toilet paper in most public restroom toilets doesn’t feel like it works well enough, so people use more. Switching to a higher ply toilet paper may inspire your customers to use less and help them feel more comfortable!
Your business’ restrooms consume a lot of your budget’s money, but these upgrades may help reduce your costs. Try them out today and see if they impact your operating budget!
