If you’re new to the world of DIY construction, welcome. It’s certainly an experience to learn how to renovate your own home or business with nothing but your love of HGTV to guide you. As many seasoned DIYers can tell, the construction process is overwhelming, but eventually, you get close to finishing your project (or calling in a professional to finish it for you). When that blessed time comes, you’ll realize there is one last hurdle that comes with the DIY process – cleanup.
As fun, as it is to demo your space for renovation, cleaning up the mess when all the walls are down is a whole other story. So, if you’re prepping for your first big DIY project, we have some post-construction cleaning tips that may help save you some time and energy. Make sure you save these for demo day!
- Get the right garage disposal system. You’re going to make a way bigger mess than you anticipate, especially if you’re new to the demo process. So take our advice and make sure you have the right garage disposal system. Whether that means renting a large container to hold all your debris or hiring a service to haul it away for you at the end of the day. You need a plan, and you need one that can handle a large volume of construction mess.
- Invest in safety gear. Do you know what will put a dent in your DIY enthusiasm? A tetanus shot! Wearing the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) can keep you safe from scratches, cuts, and bruises. So even if the goggles and gloves look a little more dorky than you’d like, put them on. There are no HGTV cameras for you to impress.
- Let your neighbors know about your construction plans. Nosy neighbors at your home or business will know you’re up to some construction project. Save yourself from the hassle of passive-aggressive eye rolls and comments, and give your neighbors the heads up before you start your project. Not only is this the neighborly thing to do, but it will also earn you some goodwill if the mess of your construction moves into shared areas.
Our last tip is the most important one, hire a post-construction cleanup crew like ours. Trust us, your first major DIY experience is going to be rough. You’ll make mistakes, probably go over budget, and your schedule will be thrown out the window. By the time you get close to finishing your project, the last thing you will want to do is a thorough cleanup. That’s where we come in. Give our team a call at 801-994-6924, and we’ll come to make your newly renovated space shine, so you’re ready when HGTV comes knocking for a final walkthrough (even if it’s just in your dreams).
