If you’re planning your spring cleaning list, make sure you add window cleaning! After a long, cold winter, your windows will be covered in dirt, grime, and dust. Unfortunately, all that filth is blocking that warm spring sunshine from entering your home, so put this task at the top of your spring cleaning list. But cleaning your windows is a big job. Luckily, we have some experience with this nasty task, and we’re here to share our top three window-cleaning tips with you.
- Remove the screens first. Your window screens are like nets that capture filth. Over time they will fill up with dust and dirt. So when cleaning your windows, we recommend removing the screens first and washing them in warm soapy water. This way, you can remove that base layer of dirt trapped in the screen without making your windows even dirtier!
- Use an extending tool. If you’re cleaning outdoor windows or windows high up in your home, we recommend using an extending tool. Sure, you can use a ladder and climb up to get the job done, but then you might be at risk of falling! There are plenty of different tools you can get specifically for window cleaning that extend to different lengths so you can clean from a safe distance.
- Rinse your outdoor windows first! If you plan to tackle your outdoor windows on your own, we recommend using the garden hose or a pressure washer (on a low setting) to give them a good rinse first. This process will remove all the built-up dirt and dust on the window so that when you apply your cleaning solution, it doesn’t all spread around the glass during cleaning.
- Dust your indoor windows first! Another common mistake people make when cleaning their indoor windows is forgetting to dust them first. If you skip this crucial step, you may find that your shiny clean windows are covered in residue or dust even after cleaning. We recommend dusting first and then using a microfiber cloth to pick up any stray particles.
These tips can help make your window cleaning process a little easier. We’ve learned how practical these tips can be through years of window cleaning experience.
