- Not cleaning your vacuum. Yes, you have to clean the vacuum, including the attachments. Always follow your product manual for proper cleaning instructions.
- Not disinfecting the countertops. A soapy dishrag doesn’t cut it when you cut up raw meat. Instead, make sure to use a disinfectant or bleach solution.
- Using a feather duster. Try a microfibre cloth instead.
- Mixing cleaners. Always read and follow the product instructions; otherwise, you may cause a chemical reaction!
- Cleaning the windows on a sunny day. It will dry too fast and leave your windows streaky. Wait till it’s cloudy!
- Neglecting to clean your dishwasher.
- Neglecting to clean your washer and dryer. Appliances need to be cleaned to work correctly.
- Using the same rag or cloth everywhere. That’s just moving germs from one area to another.
- Dust your windows before you clean them. Try it. It will make things so much easier.
- Vacuuming out your vents. It helps cut down on dust.
- Not leaving your cleaning products on long enough. Some cleaning products or disinfectants need to sit for a certain amount of time on the surface to be effective. Always follow the directions on the product packaging.
- Forgetting to clean the trash bin. At least once a week, wipe out your trash bins with a bleach solution to eliminate odors.
- Clean your sink drains and disposals regularly, or they will start to smell.
- Forgetting to open windows when you are cleaning. Unless you want a headache from cleaning fumes, ensure you have some ventilation while using cleaning products.
- Start at the top and work down. The dirt and grime will flow down as you clean, so you want to make sure you get it all.
