One of the biggest questions we get asked when people call to schedule post-construction cleaning is, when should we actually schedule it? There are many moving parts at the end of a project, and the post-construction phase can have a bit of a messy timeline. If you schedule the cleaning process for the wrong time, you may need to do it again. So, as post-construction cleaning experts, here’s a timeline of the post-construction phase that we recommend you use for scheduling your cleaning.
- Final inspections: Depending on the type of construction and the project scope, a series of inspections may be needed to certify the construction work. Scheduling these inspections can be tricky, so you may be tempted to clean up before the inspection, but that’s a mistake. If the inspection fails, the work may need to be redone, which will create even more construction mess, so it’s best to wait until the project has passed all final inspections and you’ve received the final inspection report, which indicates no changes must be made.
- Final Walkthrough: Like the final inspections, the final walkthrough is when the general contractor and construction team take you through the completed project. This process is more than a formality; it is a chance to see the work, evaluate it, and recommend changes if it’s not what you requested. In this case, a rough clean may be helpful to showcase the job, but a complete post-construction cleaning is premature.
- Training and Testing: We recommend completing testing and training on any new appliances or products that were installed as part of the construction process before the post-construction cleaning. It can sometimes take time to learn to use new appliances correctly, and you may cause a mess the first time you use them. For example, the first time you turn on a new HVAC system, it’s common for construction dust accumulated during the building process to be displaced all over the construction site.
Once these three phases in the post-construction process are complete, scheduling your post-construction cleaning is safe. Our team will then be able to enter and safely remove leftover construction materials, dispose of drywall and construction dust, and carefully clean all the new fixtures and surfaces in your newly constructed space. Once the post-construction cleaning is finished, the area is ready for a final finishing cleaning, where we make everything shine so your new space is ready to use. So, if you’re planning a construction project, schedule our services at the right time by following this timeline!
